By now you may already know that Twitter released its "lists" feature from beta and into their main site. This is a solution to the problem created when you follow lots of people on Twitter and your Twitter home page becomes flooded with irellevant tweets.
But what does this specifically meant to you as a sourcer or recruiter? Here's what you can do:
Create Lists
Its easy to make a list. Click on a link on the right hand side column of the home page once you are logged in, give your list a name and add twitterers to your list by using a tab that appears next to their profile. You can also search for people using http://www.tweepz.com and just add them by clicking on their page and selecting your list from the drop down menu that comes up on the "Lists" button.
Your new list then publishes the collective tweets of all the twitter accounts you added to the list. You can add people you are not following yourself. (Note that this means unfollowing someone will not remove them from your list.)
This feature makes it possible for you to organize feeds into topic lists. For example, add all of your recruiting team mates and colleagues onto one list, and create a feed of that list for your LinkedIn Group, Facebook Page, Blog, or even just for your own RSS reader.
You can also sort the people you following into several lists, one for each of category or favorite topic. One list can be your leadership team, another your competitors, yet another you favorite sports subjects, and so on, making it easy to follow topics without the need for a dashboard-like application that installs on your computer such as TweetDeck.
Note that you can also create a private list that only you see - this is in the event that you have a group of hiring managers, customers, or other VIPs that you want to follow but wouldn't want other to know about.
Find Lists
I'm already listed in 42 lists, can you believe it? Check out some of your favorite tweeple and you may find them listed somewhere, then you can follow that list to discover other people like them.
Because the lists have their own URL you can also search for them using the site:twitter.com and the inurl:NAME commands.
For example, to find lists related to Accounting you could search for
site:twitter inurl:accounting
Just replace Accounting with any company name, topic or subject of interest.
Follow Lists
You can gather intelligence from sources you didn't even know existed by subscribing to a list of experts in a particular field. For example, you can subscribe to the most knowledgeable twitterers in sourcing by following this list which may include new sourcers and information sources you may not already follow.
