Reading a Wall Street Journal article this morning about "grade inflation" of reviews on Amazon YouTube, Ebay and other sites, reminded me of my reading of "Trophy Kids" recently. It seems that most people do not want to be negative about anything so grades are inflated. Heck, even dog food gets an average of 4.7 out of 5 stars. In the UK the ratings average even higher. The article goes on to say that human nature might explain this because word of mouth reviews show that 65% are positive while only 8% are negative.
I wonder if our litigious society has spured this in our culture - fear of retribution through the legal system. Maybe that has been replaced by fear of retribution on the Internet. It makes the recruiter's job much harder in assessing critical thinking skills. Do your hiring managers ask you to assess that? I have never been asked to try to assess it for an executive candidate but if I was asked I think I'd go to blogs, Facebook, groups, etc. to see what conversation I could dig up.
Have you been asked to assess critical thining skills and if so, how did you do it? What questions did you ask? Is it implied if you have certain titles, like Project Manager?
